The Fifth International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians
will be held in Kurashiki City, Okayama Japan, from August 30-to
September 14, 2003, and shall comprise three specialties: piano, violin,
and cello. The Organizing Committee will do utmost to make the
Competition an enjoyable and personally enriching experience for the
young musicians involved.

The Competition is open to young musicians of any nationality born on
and after September 14, 1986.

The Competition consists of three rounds: first, second and third
(final). All auditions are open to public. In the First and Second
Rounds of the violin and cello divisions the contestants will perform
with a piano accompaniment. In the Third Round (Finals) the contestants
will perform with an orchestra.

To qualify for admission to the Competition applicants will be
selected by special jury panel according to the submitted documents and
audio/video- tapes, MD (preliminary selections). Applicants might be
admitted to the Competition in case they pass the original live
preliminary selections on the special approvement of the Organizing
Committee.

The Opening Ceremony of the Competition will be held on August 31,
2003. The Closing Ceremony, awarding ceremony and the Gala-concert of
the prize-winners will be held on September 14, 2003.

The contestants will cast lots to determine the order of their
presentations at the Competition on one day prior the beginning of the
First Round. The contestants should arrive in Kurashiki for registration
on August 30, 2003.
