
VASSILY SINAISKY
Vassily Sinaisky is one of the most individual Russian conductor of
his generation. Trained by Ilya Musin at the Leningrad (now St. Petersburg)
Conservatoire. In 1973 Sinaisky won the Gold Medal at the Karajan
Competition in Berlin and now enjoys a thriving career in Europe,
Japan and America.
Building on his work with the legendary Kondrashin and the Moscow
Philharmonic, Sinaisky became the Orchestra's Music Director and
Principal Conductor (1991-1996). Sinaisky appeared as the Guest conductor
with the Montreal Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestras, with the San
Diego Symphony, the Detroit and Atlanta Symphonies. With a great success
he performed with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (Principal Guest
Conductor). His engagements include concerts with the Rotterdam and
Czech Philharmonic Orchestras, Orchestre National de France, with the
Philharmonia, Royal Scottish National and Finnish Radio Symphony
orchestras.
Sinaisky is also a distinguished opera conductor.
Vassily Sinaisky has made several recordings with the BBC Philharmonic
Orchestra including works by Szymanowski, Shchedrin and Balakirev.
At present Vassily Sinaisky continues to work actively with different
West-European and Russian orchestras on the best concert stages, and
heads the State Symphony Orchestra. He also started to work with the
Russian Symphony Orchestra.
OPERA CONDUCTOR
He gave concert performances of Stravinsky's "Mavra" and Tchaikovsky's
"Iolanta" in Paris with the Orchestre National de France. Other
productions include Tchaikovsky's "Queen of Spades" with the controversial
Russian director Yuri Lyubimov in Dresden, Berlin and Karlsruhe and many
notable performances with the Bolshoi and Latvian State Opera companies,
including Mussorgsky's "Boris Godunov" and Tchaikovsky's "Queen of Spades".
